Barrow wants to transform Mankamang Kunda into a modern village

Is President Adama Barrow following in the footsteps of his predecessor?

With less than one year in office, the Gambian leader has allegedly started building houses in his native village of Mankamang Kunda in the Upper River Region.

A source disclosed to What’s On-Gambia that President Barrow wants to transform Mankamang Kunda into a modern rural village with electricity and running water.

Most of the president’s family members, including his mother and siblings, still live in the village, where the majority of their neighbours sleep in traditional mud hut houses with grass thatched roofs.

According to our source, the contract to build houses in Mankamang Kunda was given to Gigo Construction Ltd.

“The owner of Gigo Construction and President Barrow are good friends. I think they have already started clearing the area where the houses are to be built. One of Gigo’s boys is a close friend and he told me about it.”

President Barrow was born in the Upper River Region. He left his village as a teenager to further his education in Banjul, where he attended Crab Island Secondary School and Muslim High School.

The Gambian leader has six siblings- one brother and five sisters. His brother, Bully, who is responsible for managing the family in the village, is now said to be driving an expensive car.
