A Belgian woman has alleged that her Gambian husband is demanding D2 million to accept their divorce. The case is currently being heard at the High Court in Banjul.
In an interview with What's On-Gambia, the woman revealed that she met her now estranged husband in 2017 while vacationing in The Gambia with her then-husband, who is the man’s uncle.
She claimed: "He snatched me from his uncle."
After purchasing a house in Sanchaba Sulay Jobe, she invited her husband to live with her there. However, their marriage quickly became troubled, leading her to seek a divorce.
The woman alleged that her husband is now demanding D2 million as a condition for the divorce. She described him as a "cantankerous, quarrelsome, difficult, and fastidious person" and said their marriage was marked by turbulent and traumatic incidents.
Her lawyers told the court that she is pursuing the divorce due to her husband's behavior, which they argue makes it unreasonable for her to continue living with him.
