Dozens of Gambians are expected  to gather outside the American Embassy along Kairaba Avenue on Monday morning, June 8, to display their solidarity with anti-racism demonstrations in the USA over the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white police officer pressed his knee on his neck. 

One of the organisers, Madi Jobarteh disclosed: "We will converge in silence. We will stand on one knee like Colin Kaepernick to symbolize our mourning and condemnation of the acts of violence meted out to Blacks in the US by the police." 

He added: "We want to demand that the US Government enforce its own Constitution, uphold its own Declaration of Independence of 1776 and implement all of its civil rights act to protect the lives and dignity of Black People."

According to Madi, they will also demand the Trump administration to investigate the murder of Momodou Lamin Sisay, the 39-year-old Gambia who was allegedly killed by police in Georgia  

"Stand up for your sons, daughters, brothers and sisters in the United States. We are one!" he said.
