Fire Service explains gas explosion that killed four members of Faji Kunda family

Promising young footballer Omar Jammeh, popular known as Yellow Man, died after a gas explosion in their family home in Faji Kunda. His mother Kaddy Njie and uncle Bakary Camara also died from burn injuries.  

"It happened on the 13th May, 2020, shortly after 7 pm. We received a telephone call from one John Dollar that there was a fire outbreak in Faji Kunda caused by a severe gas leak from a nine-kilo cylinder.," disclosed the Spokesperson of the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) Pateh Gibba. 

He continued: "On arrival, our emergency crew found out that four victims of the explosion were already rushed to the hospital, where three of them were later pronounced dead. 

"The incident commander contacted the hospital to gather more information about the victims. All four of them were severely burned."  

Yellow Man was a promising young footballer who wanted to play for big teams in Europe. Described by his friends as bubbly and cheerful, Yellow Man and his mum died at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital one week apart from each other.

His uncle, Bakary Camara also succumbed to his injuries leaving behind a wife and a child.
