Imam Jagne has thanked Allah after penning a three-year contract with Everton FC on Saturday.  

"Alhamdulillah, I thank God and I pray that he will bless all people and Gambians as he blessed me. Now, I am even going to work harder InshaÁllah. May Allah protect us," he said during a chat with What's On-Gambia.  

According to Everton FC's website, the 17-year-old will join their club's academy and will be eligible to play once his minor application – the registration process for young players from EU countries – has been approved by FIFA. 

Imam disclosed he was born in Brikama, but moved to Sweden to start a new life when he was 6 years old. He started his football career with Solväders FC before moving to BK Häcken of the Swedish Allsvenskan league.  

When asked whether he would play for the Gambian national team, the Scorpions, the young star said: "Right now my focus is on my new team and what is waiting for me here in England. Everton FC has my attention 100% until something else comes up." 

He described his new team as one of the best in the world saying: "The club has a lot of history and they want to help me become a better player and a better person, too, which is what attracted me."
