Zaq Dixon is a 14 –year -old beatboxer who wants to build a fan base in The Gambia. He started visiting the country three years ago with his mother.
The British teenager has performed at numerous venues in the UK. But one of the highlights of his budding career was when he was invited to take part in the Back to Africa Music Festival in Batukunku (near Sanyang).
Zaq, who picked up beatboxing at the age of four, was back in The Gambia recently and made a surprise appearance at the Cypher Rap Battle held at the Westfield Monument.
During an interview with What’s On-Gambia, the young beatboxer said he was amazed by the Gambian rap scene.
“It is really different from the UK rap scene. I was really amazed! It was a lot better than what I expected.”
Zaq disclosed he is planning to tour The Gambia soon. He wants to introduce young Gambians to the art of beatboxing, which is now considered to be an important element of hip hop.
The 14-year-old old, who lives in Bourmoth in South West England, said: “I love The Gambia so much. It is a very calm place, and one of my favorite places I visited.”
His mother, Allie added: “Zaq’s heart is in Africa.”
