The groom is a former professional footballer. The bride is young enough to be his daughter.

Aziz Corr, who is said to be in his 50s, married Mariam Jah (Yam) in a lavish ceremony held recently in The Gambia. It is believed that he spent more than half a million dalasi on the three-day wedding extravaganza.

His bride described it as a fairytale wedding.  Yam wrote on Facebook: “Aziz sagal nga ma teh russlor wulor ma belie yai gorr belie contana!!”

The wedding, which was attended by celebrities like Waka Jagne, was surrounded by so much controversy.

The veteran footballer’s ex-wife, Serrah Njie in Stockholm, Sweden was not happy.  She posted a damning video online lambasting her ex-husband and revealing to Gambians some shocking details about their past life together.

According to Serrah, Aziz has ten children, three of them with her. She said: “I don’t think it is fair for the children to suffer. At this moment, they are not suffering but I felt it is necessary for you to support.”

She added: “Just because our marriage didn’t work, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t send the children any allowance. You have no reason for doing that!”

Serrah also disclosed that she was financially supporting Aziz Corr’s family in The Gambia when he was serving jail time in a European prison.

The video, which is still circulating online, is said to cause the former national player embarrassment and stress.

A famous Gambian that spoke to What’s On-Gambia said: “I was in tears when I watched the ex-wife’s video. Thesekotos only live for the moment; they have no plans for their kids.

“She is from Kotu and has a child with a former boyfriend. Yam now lives in Atlanta, USA. She was a very popular girl before she left the country,” said a source.

The source continued: “Some people are very worried about the age gap between them. Aziz is no longer a young man. It may be a difficult marriage and I don’t think it will survive more than two years.”

The former footballer is trying so hard not to let the controversy ruin his honeymoon. He is like a teenage boy in love. Some of the wedding photos littered on social media shows Aziz dancing and locking lips with his bride.
