The coronavirus outbreak is hitting the National People's Party hard, forcing them to pause most of their political activities across the country.
One of their supporters told What's On-Gambia: "the outbreak is hitting us very hard and it's already derailing President Barrow's re-election bid."
He revealed all their rallies and meetings to drum up support for the president were cancelled or postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Some political commentators suggested if the outbreak is still on-going later this year, it may endanger the launching of the NPP, which was registered with Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in December 2019.
But one of the party's most prominent members. Seedy Njie insisted the launching will happen in 2020.
"It will be communicated to all and sundry inshallah," he said.
When asked whether the coronavirus has derailed Barrow's re-election bid, the outspoken politician, who was a member of the former ruling party APRC, responded: "May Allah protect us and end its spread and infections."
MC Cham Jr of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) said: "the coronavirus has already knocked most of their plans off track. We will not allow them to push the election to 2022."
