A 16-year-old boy from Numuyel in the Upper River Region is The Gambia's youngest suspected coronavirus patient after coming into close contact with a family member who has the virus.
He reportedly has all the symptoms associated with the deadly virus and is still under quarantine waiting for a follow-up confirmatory test.
On Sunday, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh announced the teenager's sample was taken and tested on the 27th March at the Medical Research Council (MRC), but it came back inconclusive.
He revealed: "A follow up confirmatory test will be done to determine whether the suspect is CONVID-19 positive or not in a few days."
The 16-year-old is said to be a relative of the second Gambian who tested positive for coronavirus after arriving from France.
Dr Samateh appealed to the general public to follow the executive directive of the president to stay at home and observe social distancing.
