The Gambia’s new vice president was officially sworn-in on Monday at the State House in Banjul. A famous lawyer-turned-politician, Ousainou Darboe is the first male to hold the office since Saihou Sabally in 1994.

After swearing an oath of office on a Quran, Darboe thanked President Barrow for appointing him to the highest political office in the country.

“I shall be by your side to help you deliver The Gambia you aspire to,” he said to the Gambian leader.

In a Facebook post, Darboe told his 4,900 followers: “My gratitude to the President for the confidence bestowed on me for this appointment. I and the rest of the cabinet will endeavour to live up to his and the people’s expectations. We ask for the cooperation and the prayers of The Gambian people.”

The famous politician was the minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad before his appointment as vice president.
