Don’t sell our playing ground: An alleged land grabbing in Bakoteh irks young footballers

An alleged land grabbing in Bakoteh has left a group of young people fuming with anger.

Members of the Kololi football team, Johaness FC said their playing ground has been sold off to Indian investors.

One of the team’s leaders told What’s On-Gambia: “It is a reserve land located behind the SOS Village. Some Indians are coming there these days saying they own it.

“It is the only playing ground in that area and also it is used as a praying ground during tobaski and koriteh prayers.”

The alleged land grabbing brought a large issue to light. There are very limited playing grounds for young people in Bakoteh, Kololi and its surrounding settlements.

According to a member of Johaness FC, who begged for anonymity, the playing ground behind SOS Village is used by different football teams. He is appealing to the government to either reverse their decision or get them a different place to play football.
