Dr Ceesay: Saudi-Gambia MOU would be useless

Hamat Bah, the Minister of Tourism and Culture, during an interview with the BBC said The Gambia government has ‘requested’ to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Saudi government which would see the youths travelling to the Arab nation for more job opportunities.

Dr Ismaila Ceesay who was earlier this year named on the list of 100 most influential young persons in West Africa by The Confederation of West African Youths said the request made by The Gambia government is ‘useless.’

“I would not sign that MOU and I would not advise anyone to sign that MOU,” he said.

Dr Ceesay also highlighted the importance of young people to the development of the country and the African continent as a whole.

“I believe that young people are the future of this continent…I have seen a huge potential and talent in Gambian youths,” he asserted.

Dr Ceesay, who recently received the Pan- African Humanitarian Award for Excellence In Social Leadership and Community Impact, said The Gambia government should put in mechanisms to counter the high unemployment rate.

Finally, he said the youths are the key and the backbone of the country.
