Ebola outbreak not likely to affect tourism – confirms The Gambia Experience

UK tour operator, The Gambia Experience said the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has not yet affected their sales figures for the 2014/2015 tourist season.

Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, one of their travel consultants, Kerryn said: “There have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in The Gambia. We have had a few people enquire about it but sales are still the same.”

The Gambia Experience is the only UK Tour Operator that specializes in holidays to The Gambia. Every year, they bring thousands of tourists from different parts of the United Kingdom.

Some of the stakeholders in the tourism industry also insist that The Gambia is a safe destination, and revealed that the government has implemented a surveillance programme to monitor people from countries affected by the Ebola outbreak.

According to the World Health Organization, the deadly virus is spreading faster than efforts to control it. Ebola has already killed more than 800 people in countries like Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

To date, no confirmed case of Ebola has been reported in The Gambia and neighboring Senegal.
