After years financially supporting opposition parties, multimillionaire Pa Njie Geri Gara has become the GDC candidate in the upcoming Kanifing Municipality mayoral contest.
The multimillionaire, who is believed to be among the richest men in The Gambia, is up against former youth leader Bakary Badjie, PDOIS’ Adama Bah and an unknown number of others for Kanifing’s highest office.
GDC’s youth mobiliser, MC Cham Jnr told What’s On-Gambia: “He is our candidate and he has already promised that he would donate his monthly salary to orphanages.”
If elected in May by the people of Kanifing, Njie intends to cut taxes for small businesses and increase salaries for all municipal workers.
“He hopes if salaries are increased it can lead to a significant drop in corruption,” said MC.
The youth mobiliser, who is among Njie’s campaign team, revealed the multimillionaire would introduce new initiatives to improve waste management in the municipality.
Pa Njie Geri Gara is well known in The Gambia. He was one of the businessmen who financially supported opposition parties in their fight to unseat former President Yahya Jammeh.
