Since her election in April 2017, Fatoumatta Jawara has never initiated or contributed in debates in the National Assembly.
According to sources, the Tallinding National Assembly member (NAM) is yet to take the floor and present the needs and demands of her people.
A renowned political analyst claimed that poor academic credentials might be the reason behind Fatoumatta’s dormancy in the National Assembly.
“It is possible that she doesn’t want to embarrass herself before her colleagues. This is why the Assembly should permit the use of our local languages to enable lawmakers like Fatoumatta to actively take part in debates.”
The Tallinding lawmaker was one of the most prominent youth leaders in the United Democratic Party before her election. She’s the party’s only female NAM in the National Assembly.
Fatoumatta was once incarcerated by the former government of Yahya Jammeh for taking part in a protest at Westfiend demanding electoral reforms.
