Floyd Mayweather has told journalists he’s proud of Badou Jack after the Gambian boxer won the WBA light heavyweight title from Nathan Cleverly.

In his post-fight press conference after downing Conor McGregor, the newly retired boxer said Badou and other members of his Mayweather Promotions have what it takes to replace him as boxing’s new king.

He described them as “young lions”.

Badou is unquestionably the most successful boxer in The Gambia’s sports history. On Saturday, he delivered a vicious performance against Cleverly to become the world’s lightweight champion.

Shortly after his fight, he took to Facebook to thank his fans.

“Thanks for all the love and support…on to the next one .”

Congratulations, Badou!
