Amadou Sanneh: From prisoner to finance minster!

United Democratic Party’s former treasurer, Amadou Sanneh, who was recently released from prison, has been sworn-in as The Gambia’s new finance minister on Wednesday at the Kairaba Beach Hotel

Sanneh was convicted in December 2013 of conspiracy to commit an act with seditious intention, possession of seditious publication and false swearing.

Nigerian judge, Justice Emmanuel Nkea of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul, sentenced him to five years in prison on each count.

After spending nearly three years at the notorious Mile 2 Central Prison, the former UDP treasurer was released. He was among dozens of political prisoners who were set free after the swearing-in of The Gambia’s new president, Adama Barrow.

Sanneh is now responsible for managing the Gambian economy.  He replaces Abdou Kolley.
