Less than two years ago, you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing Bai Babu’s no.1 single, Fahass. The music video of the single garnered more than one million views in less than one year since it was uploaded on YouTube.
But now things look very, very different for the Tallinding-born rapper, who still claims to be the landlord of Gambian rap-mbalax.
Bai Babu’s skyrocketing career began to fail after ending his recording contract with Saul Sowe’s Joluv Arts Entertainment.
He was later signed by Absolute Entertainment under the leadership of the country’s most popular female event organizer, Haddy Faye. Earlier last year, Bai Babu dropped Merci, but surprisingly the song didn’t make too much of a splash. It gathered less than 2000 views on YouTube as of this writing.
A Gambian music pundit told What’s On-Gambia: “2018 was not very kind to Bai Babu. You have to have a smart business sense to stay relevant and he seems to lack it.”
Bai Babu is right now on a European tour. Will he return home after his tour?
