The Gambian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been accused of refusing to assist a Gambian woman who sleeps in the streets of Dubai.
One Muhammed Gaye disclosed: "I am worried about the sister. She is homeless and battling mental illness."
He continued: "Since November, I have been seeing her sleeping in the park. We contacted the Gambian Embassy and the president of the Gambian Association in the UAE but they both refused to help her.
"My friend and I once took to her to our house to stay with us, but she only spent a night and left. I haven’t seen her since then for a week or two until yesterday when I saw her at the park again."
Muhammed accused the Embassy of abandoning its own citizens who are struggling in Dubai.
"I have no trust in the Embassy nor the useless Gambian association in Dubai. She's a sister and needs our help," he said.
There are a lot of Gambian women in Dubai, some of them work as domestic helpers for wealthy Emirati families.
