Gambian singer making waves in the USA

Starboi Ebriima started singing at a very tender age, after being inspired by Jamaican singers such as Vybz Kartel and Busy Signal.

He was born in the US, but at the age of two, his parents moved him to The Gambia to spend time with relatives. He told What’s On-Gambia: “While growing up in the country, I fell in love with dancehall music. I was in a group called Ghetto Boys.”

After his return to the USA, Starboi decided to pursue a solo career.

“I have released a few singles earlier this year, and also dropped six music videos. I just finished work on my first EP, The Brakes.”

He added: “The reason I am into music is to speak out for people, who don’t have platforms. My intention is to always make songs that would resonate and inspire music enthusiasts.”

On the Gambian music industry, the US-based singer said: “Gambian music is growing in a massive way. I think we all need to work together on creating a bigger wave.”
