Gambian students are raising alarms over what they describe as the US Embassy's frequent and unjustified rejection of their visa applications.
One student, who requested anonymity, told What's On-Gambia: "The situation in The Gambia is currently raising concerns regarding the increasing number of students being rejected by the consular officer responsible for visa interviews. In many instances, individuals are being denied without any apparent justification.
"The consular officer is utilizing a specific section of the law to justify his discriminatory actions. A student who was rejected twice reported that out of the 54 applicants interviewed on the same day, only two were granted visas.
"The Government must address the US embassy regarding these fraudulent practices targeting students who have met all requirements and fulfilled their financial obligations. I, myself, was denied on the 20th of May, along with the majority of applicants, without valid reasons, solely based on racial discrimination.
"Despite their foreign policy of limiting the number of visitors to the US, they are deliberately rejecting students whose parents are struggling to secure their children's acceptance in various universities and colleges."
