German police foil attempt by Gambian boy to join ISIS

A 17-year-old Gambian boy based in Hamburg, Germany was lured to travel to Syria/Iraq to join ISIS, according to the German media.

The boy, who was planning to travel with three other teenagers with Turkish origin, is now under police investigation. Two of his colleagues are girls aged 14 and 15.

One of the parents, who suspected they were on their way to Iraq or Syria via Turkey after seeing their one-way tickets, alerted the police.

ISIS, which means Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, is an Islamic organization that aims to create an Islamic state across Sunni areas of Iraq and Syria. They are popular for killing dozens of people and carrying out public executions.

Very little is known about the Gambian boy, but according to the German media, investigations are still underway to determine how they became radicalized and who was behind the trip.

It is not yet clear whether the 17-year-old will be deported to The Gambia or allowed to stay in Germany.
