A provincial governor (name withheld) has been accused of impregnating a schoolgirl, according to information received by What's On-Gambia.

A source claiming to be close to the girl's family alleged: "He slept with the girl, which resulted in a pregnancy. The girl is from Sare (deleted), located on the outskirts of (deleted)."

The source added: "The matter has already been reported to the child welfare unit of the police for investigation."

But we contacted a police officer in the region, he said he was unaware of the case.

"It might have happened, but I’m not aware of it. Since he’s the head of the region, it’s possible that our commissioner may keep it from us. Cases like this are often tightly controlled."

If the allegations are proven true, the governor will be removed from office. If the girl is a minor, he could face rape charges.
