The remains of a Gambian migrant crushed to death by a train in Italy were last week repatriated to The Gambia thanks to the generosity and hard work of a US-based young woman.

Mariam Tekanyi started an online fundraising after hearing the family of the deceased was having difficulties to meet the cost of sending the remains home.

She urged the online community to donate raising a staggering $1,116. The money was handed over to the family and the remains were repatriated for a dignified burial.

Mariam’s efforts touched the hearts of many, some taking to Facebook to commend her for her compassion and care.

“You're such an amazing person Sis. Keep it up . May Allah reward you for this,” wrote one Zainab Zahra Ceesay
