An angry husband in the Upper River Region has been convicted and sentenced to death for killing a man that he allegedly caught sleeping with his wife.
According to the Foroyaa newspaper, Wurry Jallow was arraigned before the Basse High Court for the offense of murder, contrary to Section 187 of the Criminal Code. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The particulars of his offense disclosed the angry husband on or about the 29th March 2019 at Jagular village in Wuli West caused the death of one Muhammed Bah by stabbing him with a knife, thereby causing his death.
Wury and his wife were in Jagular to attend a wedding ceremony. While in the village, he stabbed Muhammed after allegedly catching him having sex with his wife.
But the wife in her testimony before Justice Landing M. Sanneh denied sleeping with the deceased. She insisted that her husband did not find them having sex.
Delivering his judgment, Justice Sanneh said Wurry failed to prove his innocence and therefore convicted him of the offense he was charged with.
“Under the circumstances, the convict Wurry Jallow is hereby sentenced to death, and may God have mercy on you,” he told him.
The angry husband is expected to spend the rest of his life at the Mile 2 prison in Banjul.
