Indian businessman, Nando might soon become the largest landowner in Banjul. He allegedly owns more property than the City Council.
"He's buying the whole city of Banjul and turning it into a warehouse," said a young Banjulian .
The Public Relationships Officer at the Banjul City Council (BCC), Modou Lamin Bah told What's On-Gambia that he is aware of rumours circulating that some of the properties in the city are now in the hands of the Indian multimillionaire.
"I can remember attending several meetings with the mayor, councillors and some support staff of BCC to engage the Department of Physical Planning not to give anyone clearance to erect stores in residential areas," he said.
When asked whether he is aware that Nando could soon be the largest landowner in Banjul, Mr Bah responded: "I will have to find out from our Rates and License Department and get back to you."
Nando is also the owner of the famous Emkay Stores Gambia Ltd. on Buckle Street. He is among the richest Asians in the country.
