Jali Madi makes Senegalese TV performance debut on Night Show

Jali Madi Kanuteh’s strive to become The Gambia’s next international star has seen another boost after he made her debut Senegalese TV performance.

The singer took to the stage during last Friday’s (May 15) Night Show on TFM to perform some of his favorite songs.

Speaking to famous TV presenter, Pape Cheikh Diallo, who is also the host for Night Show, Jali Madi introduced himself as a young singer from a famous griot family.

“Banna Kanuteh is my father. Sainabou Tunkara is my mum. Jali Madi is from a griot family. My father was the first to create a national troupe in The Gambia,” he said.

The star was accompanied to Senegal by veteran composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Kebba Taylor. Also among the team were Bai Babu and Manding Morry.

After his TV appearance that was watched by hundreds of Gambians and Senegalese, Jali Madi took to Facebook to thank his fans: “I thank you all for your support and comments. Jere ngen jeff!”

Bilie, you made all Gambians proud. You did it again, yalna yallah Burr laffal chat rek. Go star!” commented one of his fans, Fatima Ndow.

Another fan, Kankaba Kanuteh added: “We are proud of you, the sky is the limit.”

Jali Madi’s debut album, Gambia is widely considered to be one of the country’s best albums in 2014.
