Chinese contractors in the Upper River Region (URR) are facing fresh allegations of being rude and abusive towards their Gambian workers.
During a meeting with young supporters of his Gambia Democratic Party, (GDC), Hon. Mama Kandeh alleged the Chinese contractors have a prison where they detain, abuse and mistreat their local staff.
“I heard that they have their own prison there, different from Mile 2 and Janjang Bureh,” he said.
The GDC leader further disclosed: “Forty Gambian workers were detained there for almost a month. If it’s true that they committed theft, why didn’t they take them to the police?
The Chinese are in the URR to construct a 50km road and four bridges, which are part of President Adama Barrow’s major infrastructural development projects.
