Karsten’s Smiling Coast Restaurant closes for good

The 2015/16 tourist season has ended with Karsten’s Smiling Coast Restaurant in Senegambia closing its doors for good.

“Dear friends, unfortunately I have closed the restaurant forever. It´s very sad, but it was not profitable since the opening and I don´t want to invest any more money. 100 000 € of investment is enough. This season I had 2.5 good months (1.5 months so lala), which is not enough to cover the expenses for the whole year. Am very sorry for my staff, but my losses are too high,” owner Karsten Touray wrote on Facebook.

He continued: “There are too many problems around to make it really enjoyable running a restaurant in Gambia. It´s a poor country but the costs are enormous, i didn´t expect that. Only energy costs 40€ every day, if the restaurant is full or not.”

The closing of the restaurant has unsurprisingly generated a lot of reactions online.

One Valmai Sherlock described it as a “sad news” saying Karsten Smiling Coast Restaurant was the nicest restaurant on the Senegambia Strip.
