She has spent nights in almost all the districts in the country during her stint as a GRTS reporter and President Jammeh’s press secretary, but Fatou Camara despite always bragging about her Kiang heritage on and off air never stayed a night in Kiang; not one time in her life.
This shocking revelation was made by one of the most well-known online political activists, Femi Mahoney. He was commenting on a What’s On-Gambia prank news story about Fatou’s appointment as station manager for GRTS in Basse.
“With all due respect to Basse, if Fatou has never slept in Kiang, where she originates from, which is nearer to Banjul, what is the chance of her going to Basse? Unless they fix a shopping mall with good ice cream parlour up there, the chances of her going there is ZERO.”
And while this might seem odd purely on the basis that it's one of the most famous areas in the Lower River Region, it's made stranger by the fact that it’s the birthplace of Fatou’s grandparents.
“She was never a proud a Kiangka until when she started her online radio. Fatou always claimed to be from Pipeline during her days at GRTS,” said a source who once worked with her at the national broadcaster.
Many were shocked by the revelation.
Fatou Camara has been regarded as the Queen of broadcast media as she dominated Gambian TV for years. She was married to Yusupha Saidy, a sophisticated scam artist who specialised in scamming millions of Dollars from rich Middle East businessmen in exchange for non-existent gold.
Fatou and Yusupha Saidy later divorced before she hurriedly escaped to the US after she was alleged to have been passing confidential state information to Freedom Newspaper.
Why is Fatou reluctant to ever stay a night in her native Kiang?
