A Sweden-based Gambian lawyer, Lovette Jallow has revealed she will be travelling to Libya to deliver aid to Gambian migrants stuck in the North African country.
In a Facebook post, she wrote: “I have made the decision to travel down to Libya in the coming weeks in order to be on the ground and hopefully be better able to help on site especially with the necessities required by the people most affected by the current situation.”
This came after she organised a successful protest in Stockholm against the alleged sale of African migrants in Libya. According to the Swedish police, the protest was attended by more than 7,000 people.
In an interview with What’s On-Gambia, Lovette said: “I intend by God’s grace to be in Libya by the end of December with containers for our people down there.”
The young lawyer appealed to the Government of The Gambia to evacuate its citizens as soon as possible.
“The Gambia needs to step in and send rescue. As well as formulate a plan to figure out how to help my sisters and brothers realise their dreams within our country. We need immediate action!”
