Lucky Dube’s daughter, Nkulee to perform in The Gambia

Nkulee Dube, daughter of the late reggae legend Lucky Dube, will perform in The Gambia for the first time on the 25th May, 2015.

The South African singer has added a Banjul date to her upcoming Lucky Dube Celebration Tour, playing at President Jammeh’s birthday concert.

Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, she said: “Like the rest of the world, we love to be able to perform everywhere, anywhere, and anytime. We’re blessed to be able to visit your country, and being invited specifically is a true honor.”

Nkulee, whose music is classified as ethno-ragga’ fused with soul and jazz, is famous in her native country. She started her career as a backup dancer and singer with the late afropop star, Lebo Mathosa.

The 29-year-old is facing a campaign by online political activists who are calling on her to cancel the concert.

“Unfortunately there seems to be many people in the world who have their own opinions and agendas. We do not condone any political actions. We’re not politicians, we’re artistes,” she said.

Popularly known for songs like Give it to me, Nkulee is respected for her ability to captivate her audience with her voice and dance moves.
