A 45-year-old man (name withheld) has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree in a tiny village in Upper Saloum after his wife sought to divorce him, according to information reaching What's On-Gambia.
The incident, which happened last week, shocked the whole village.
A source disclosed that police were called to the scene, when he was found hanging from the three on the outskirts of his village.
The source confirmed the 45-year-old's wife's intention to pull the plug on their marriage was the reason he took the extreme step.
Speaking to What's On-Gambia, a social worker, who begged for anonymity, said: "This is shocking. I am urging families to share problems they face in life rather than resorting to death by suicide."
The man was buried in the village in the presence of his family and friends.
