A renowned marabout in Brikama, who operates opposite the Brikama Area Council, was remanded at Mile 2 Prison after confessing that he had sex with a 29-year-old married woman 29 times.
The woman, who sought the marabout’s assistance in casting a love spell on her husband, was instructed to provide her underwear for the preparation of a love potion.
During her initial visit, the marabout reportedly persuaded her to undress, leading to a sexual encounter. The woman continued to visit him, resulting in a total of 29 sexual encounters.
The woman later reported the incidents to the police, alleging that the marabout had used a spell to coerce her into sex without her consent.
The marabout was charged with rape and was initially remanded at Mile 2 Prison. But he was subsequently granted bail on medical grounds.
Upset by his release, the woman took her case to various institutions, including the National Human Rights Commission. The police headquarters later decided to send the file to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further legal advice.
A source close to the case revealed to What’s On-Gambia that the woman, who now wears a niqab, is determined to see the marabout punished severely for the repeated sexual abuse she endured.
