Mo Hawk becomes latest rapper to bag a university degree

Music in The Gambia was once seen as a choice for school dropouts but the industry is experiencing a changing face as more and more musicians acquire higher education certificates.

The latest is veteran rapper, Mo Hawk, who has added another feather to his hat after completing a bachelor’s degree program in Sound Production from the University of Wolverhampton, England.

He is one of the growing number of people in the Gambian music industry that managed to step foot in a university.

The Pipeline-born rapper wrote on Facebook: “Feeling grateful! Thank God....Graduating with Honours Degree in Sound Production. Couldnt have done it without God and the beautiful family, friends, fans and everyone, Thanks for the encouragement and those who been there for me....much luv!”

Mo Hawk is one of the lead vocalists for the Da Fugitvz – the country’s first internationally known rap group.  He lives in England with his family, but visits The Gambia regularly.
