It’s perhaps fair to say that Modou Barrow’s career has not excelled since he married his third wife, Saffie Mbye.
The pair, who had a secret romance for months, tied the knot shortly after the English Premier League footballer pulled the plug on his second marriage.
But since they became husband and wife, Modou’s career started going downhill.
The winger had been one of Swansea’s first-choice wide options during his first year with the Welsh club, but a drop off in form saw him fall down the pecking order.
He was later sent on loan to three championship clubs before transferring to Reading last year for around £1.25m.
A popular British football writer said Modou’s career “wouldn’t be going too far.”
He added: “As a Premier League player, he hasn’t delivered as the supporters thought he might. He’s one of those players who in 10 years time you’ll forget was ever here."
Gambian international’s former coach at Swansea also said he’s no longer the footballer they signed in 2014 from Östersunds FK.
Modou, who is just 25, got married three times in less than five years. His third wife, Saffie is a former student of WAIS.
