Nfally Fadera gives up journalism to join The Gambia Armed Forces

For Nfally Fadera, the pen is no longer mightier than the sword. As he takes his love for his country to new heights, the popular Gambian journalist is now a soldier, after enlisting with The Gambia Armed Forces.

Now, instead of spending time with his friends and family, Nfally lives in Brikana where he is receiving his military training at the Dembo Satang Bojang Baracks.

“I will support and defend the government of His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa against all enemies, foreign or domestic,” he said during a special swearing ceremony held at State House.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Information Minister Sheriff Bojang, Interior Minister Ousman Badjie and senior officers from the army, as well as Nfally’s grand mum, were all present at the ceremony.

The presenter of Gambia Bitilo Kibaro was reportedly talked into joining the Gambia Armed Forces by his girlfriend.

Nfally, who has been spending a lot of time in the gym lately, told What’s On-Gambia: “I didn’t join the army for money or status, I joined to defend my country.”

Born in the North Bank Region, Nfally is the only member of his family to attend university. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of The Gambia.
