No Gambian again at NBA draft

This year’s NBA 2018 draft has just ended in New York City with Orlando Magic’s 6th pick Muhammed Bamba taking centre stage as the hottest prospect leading to the draft.

Teenage sensations of mainly West African origins have recently dominated the airwaves at the just concluded draft.

All eyes were on the 20-year-old 7ft Harlem-born, Mo Bamba as he is fondly called, whose parents migrated from Ivory Coast. He was followed by another West African counterpart Hamidou Diallo heading to the New Jersey Nets.

The night also saw two Nigerians Ellie Ikobo been drafted by the Phoenix Suns and Josh Okogie to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Frankfurt-born Issac Bonga whose parents are from Congo heads to the LA Lakers.

 According to one sports enthusiast who spoke to What’s On-Gambia, he cited the lack of hunger and many others as to why a Gambians can’t still feature in the NBA.
