Office of the President denies Barrow fired his bodyguard

The Office of the President has denied that President Adama Barrow fired his top Senegalese bodyguard as punishment for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a young woman living in the State House.

Camara, the president's Principal Protection Officer (PPO) since the onset of his presidency in 2016, is among the non-Gambian private security guards who are providing personal protection for Barrow and his family.

An insider at the State House, who begged for anonymity, alleged the Senegalese was abruptly fired and ordered to leave the country after the president learned he had an affair with one of the young women in his house.

"He was caught having an affair with the lady and was invited at the State Intelligence Services head office for questioning," said the insider.

When contacted, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the President, Amie Bojang-Sissoho dismissed the rumour, saying Camara is still the Gambian leader's PPO.

"That is not true. We are together in Niamey attending the ECOWAS Summit," said Mrs Bojang-Sissoho
