Omar Jallow is first “back way” victim in Barrow era

He is the first known back way migrant to die in the Mediterranean Sea since President Adama Barrow came to office on the 19th January, 2017.

Omar Jallow recently died after a boat he was travelling on capsized off the coast of Libya. He was trying to reach Italy in search of better opportunities.

According to a family source, he is a native of Seno Bajonki in Jarrah West District.

“He was a tailor by profession and after spending about three years in Libya, he decided to proceed to Italy,” said the family source.

He continued: “He was married with one child.”

Shortly after coming to office, President Adama Barrow promised to end the long and dangerous journey to Europe that has killed hundreds of young Gambians.
