Reports have emerged alleging that some female students from an upper basic school in Pirang (name withheld) are skipping classes to spend time with boyfriends at a nearby sand quarry in Faraba.
A young man working at the quarry told What’s On-Gambia that the girls frequently leave school during the day to visit the site.
“They often come here instead of staying in school. I’ve advised them to stop, but they don’t listen,” he said.
He added that the school is located near the quarry, making it easy for students to slip away whenever they have the opportunity.
While he was unable to confirm the girls’ exact ages, he expressed concern and suggested that they should focus more on their education rather than romantic relationships.
