Police are investigating an audio recording shared widely on social media where a man is heard threatening to start an ethnic genocide in The Gambia.
An insider at the Police Headquarters, who begged for anonymity, told What's On-Gambia that they were shocked by the audio recording, which was originally posted in the Santangba UDP Kang Killing Kaffo WhatsApp group
"I was angry, I was disgusted, I was confused that a Gambian would make such a threat," he said.
In the audio recording, the man threatened to set the country on fire if the court refuses to annul the December 4 presidential election results.
"We should triple what happened in Rwanda. If we don't do it, we would not have peace in this country," he said.
Our police source disclosed: "We have our officers in most of the WhatsApp groups. So we would soon identify the man and get him arrested and prosecuted."
He said multiple people have contacted them to complain about the audio recording.
