Prof. Kah showered with praise for travelling from Baku to Banjul to attend UTG convocation

Prof. Muhammadou Kah seems to have a sentimental attachment to the University of The Gambia (UTG).

The first Gambia-born UTG vice chancellor travelled down from Baku in Azerbaijan to attend on Friday the 9th convocation ceremony of UTG.

But the former VC’s sacrifices did not go unnoticed. He was greeted with applause from both students and guests as he joined Vice President Njie Saidy in the VIP area.

Prof. Kah, who currently serves as Vice Rector at ADA University in Azerbaijan, left UTG in 2015 following a protest by students. He has been credited for expanding and enhancing the university’s international profile.

But the graduating students, some of whom booed and heckled him months ago, were happy to see him and are mulling #bringbackprofkah campaign.

Law graduand, Mustapha Kah writes on his Facebook Page: “Celebrating my graduation and family reunion with my mentor and brother Prof. Muhammadou Kah. Thanks for the great evening and for encouraging me to study law. We miss you as our Vice Chancellor. Watch out for the bring back Prof. Kah campaign soon!”

It wasn’t only Prof. Kah’s former students that had praises for him. Kumba Daffeh of Tresor Closet-Beyond also writes: “Prof. Muhammadou Kah, what a great and proud moment, to come all the way from Baku to attend the convocation. It shows your relentless support and continuous commitment to an institution you helped built.”

Popular gender activist, Jama Jack added: “…….. was also great to see Prof Prof. Muhammadou Kah was at the convocation, knowing very well how dearly he holds the UTG and how much he sacrificed for the institution.”

More than 1000 students graduated on Friday.
