Rapper Salma Slims talks father’s famous fall from grace

Her father rose through the ranks to become one of the most powerful men in the country shortly after Jammeh came to power. But since his fallout with the president, Lang Conteh has spent the past 10 years walking in and out of court.

Speaking for the first time about her father’s fall from grace, Salma Slims said: “My family was well off, and then all of a sudden had nothing. I was so confused about everything that was going on. That’s when I really got into music. I had to figure out how to get it all back.”

The young rapper, who lives in the USA and recently got married, was speaking to Vmagazine.

According to her, the Conteh family lost everything after her father’s relationship with the State House went sour.

He was a senior manager with Central Bank before resigning to enter business. Lang Conteh was on the 5th May, 2016 convicted and sentenced to two-year imprisonment with hard labour.

Salma, the most promising young Gambian rapper in the US, now wants to help lift her family from the difficulties they are currently encountering.
