Changes could be on the way for the International Roots Festival, which is held biannually.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is pushing to change the way the famous festival was organised during former President Yahya Jammeh’s era.
According to sources, the changes might include having all the activities in Juffureh, where the American writer, Alex Haley traced his family roots.
In an interview with journalists, Culture and Tourism Minister Hamat Bah confirmed that the upcoming International Roots Festival “will be given a new shape and direction”
His ministry is currently inviting suggestions from the public and stakeholders in the tourism sector on how to effectively market the festival and revive tourism in Juffereh/Albreda.
