Alieu Darboe is one of the highest paid foreign-based Gambian footballers, What’s On-Gambia has reliably gathered.
The former U-20 youngster plays for the Egyptian premier league team, Al-Ittihad Alexandria.
His contract details reveal that he is paid more than D1m per month, making him one of the country’s youngest multi-millionaires. No wonder girls chase him.
Alieu was born in Sweden, but spent part of his childhood in The Gambia. He started his pro career at the age of 16 with Le Mans in France, before moving to Croatia to play for GNK Dinamo Zagreb. Some of his most famous former team mates include Ivorian winger, Gervinho.
In 2009, the 23-year-old was invited by the Gambia Football Federation to join the U-17 national team. Donning the no.10 jersey, he helped the team win the African Under-17 Championship in Algeria.
However, Alieu’s career in football has in recent times been as unstable as his relationships. Latest controversy surrounds his suspicious affair with Denmark-based drianke, Lena Starr, but a source who claims to be close to the footballer has come out to refute the allegations.
“They are just friends nothing more. I can tell you that they never slept together. It is a lie that Lena wants Alieu’s money. She is a successful businesswoman who doesn’t need any man to support her.”
When contacted Alieu declined to comment.
