Sare Ngai man allegedly beaten and handcuffed for “obstructing” police officer from dating his wife

A police officer at Sare Ngai Police Station allegedly attacked and assaulted a young man in Sare Ngai, Wuli West.

According to a source, the officer has been dating the young man's wife for the past years. The man lodged complaints against him multiple times but to no avail.

"The Officer went to the man's compound with some of his fellow Officers and a civilian to arrest him. When he tried to resist, they assaulted and beat him mercilessly. The case was forwarded to Basse Police Station and the villagers are still waiting to see the outcome of the case," said the source.

He continued: "If the Police in Basse didn't serve justice, the residents of the village threatened to take it upon ourselves to follow due process of the law to see that justice is served to the latter.

"Officers are not above the law. The primary function of the Police is to enforce laws, prevent crime, respond to emergencies, and provide support services."

When asked if the young man was arrested, he responded: "They wanted to forcefully take him to the Sare Ngai Police Station, so when the neighbors heard him calling for help, they came out and stood firm to stop the intimidation the police were doing on him. They left without taking him to the station."
