Seedy Njie is Gambia’s newest presidential surrogate

Seedy Njie, who is perhaps one of the most polarizing figures in Gambian politics, is now a presidential surrogate.

The Former APRC minister was among the politicians that accompanied President Barrow during his recently concluded nationwide tour. His job was to advise Barrow, as well as well as talking to journalists to defend the president and his policies.

During an appearance on the Fatu Network last week, Seedy Njie said one of the president’s main priorities is to build a vibrant democracy through good governance.

“If you look at the way President Barrow operates, he allows institutions in the country to operate independently.”

Seedy was one of the most recognized members of the former ruling party, APRC. He resigned from the party after he revealed to journalists that he “100% supports the presidency of President Adama Barrow.”

The new presidential surrogate described the Gambian leader as a “formidable and humble ruler”.

It is not yet clear whether Seedy will be offered a job in Barrow’s government but, inside or outside the State House, he is likely to retain a level of influence.
