An imam in Tallinding abruptly canceled a wedding on Sunday after discovering that the couple were related.

A source revealed: "Everyone was shocked when the imam announced that he couldn't proceed with tying the knot. He explained that the groom's father and the bride's grandmother were siblings, sharing the same parents."

The imam emphasized that, according to Islamic teachings, sexual relations between close family members are forbidden (haram), which led to his decision to call off the wedding.

Our source further shared: "The wedding was fully planned. The bride even had her 'heena' night with friends the evening before. While everyone was busy preparing food and the bride was at the salon, the news broke that the imam had cancelled everything."

Although both families were taken aback, they respected the imam's ruling and halted the ceremony.

When asked about the couple's background, the source said: "They are both Mandinkas, with the groom's family from Jimara and the bride's from Jarra, but the bride's family now resides in Tallinding." 

"The bride was devastated. She couldn't even bring herself to face her guests and explain the situation," the source added.

To avoid further questions from neighbors and friends, the bride has since moved to Brusubi to stay with her elder brother.
