Seinabo Sey was the QUEEN of the night at the recently held Grammy Awards in Stockholm, Sweden.
She won the award for Best Pop Star 2016 and it was perhaps the least surprising victory at the award gala attended by the crème de la crème of Swedish music.
The 25-year-old is unarguably Sweden’s most successful music export in recent years.
Speaking to journalists shortly after receiving her prestigious award, Seinabo said: “It feels fantastic. I never thought I will win such an award. What happened?”
Her performance at the award gala was compared with Beyoncé’s Superbowl appearance. She invited 130 black women with her on stage.
Seinabo received a standing ovation at the end of her performance, which was showed live on Swedish public service broadcaster, SVT.
But why did the Swedish-Gambian star invite 130 black women on stage?
She told journalists: “The whole thing that I was up there trying to convey is that people should use common sense to think and interpret things themselves.”
Seinabo is the daughter of the late Mawdo Sey, a famous Gambian musician who was based in Sweden. He died in April 2013.
